Why
Program is important to our Youth and the Community: Today's youth are blasted with
many choices; some are not all positive. Youth
are led astray into crime, drug use, low academic
performance and other vices. We
want our youth making correct choices. Given the pervasiveness of drug threat, resultant violence, moral
corruption and erosion of values that drugs lead
to, all
available resources must be mobilized to fight the battle
against drugs.
We are the Marine Corps
Youth Drug Demand Reduction program reaching communities to educate youth on the dangers of substance
abuse. We reinforce this message
by surrounding youth with positive peer groups/role
models.
|
How
Does The Program Work:
- Peer pressure, often source of these vices, is exerted
towards wholesome ends: school work, physical fitness,
other school and community
activities.
- Youth shepherded through learning journeys
that emphasize and reinforce fundamental skills
necessary for success.
- Rigorous training instills
sense of pride, profound sense of leadership, potential.
- Emphasize positive character trait: leadership, physical fitness, school, home,
outside
activities, personal habits, character guidance, close drill, drug free
lifestyles.
- Members expected to be well behaved in unit,
home, school and other activities.
- Report cards are reviewed by Young Marine Adult
leaders. Members are not
harassed, but a no-nonsense approach taken
that fosters honesty and personal
responsibility; traits often missing in young Americans.
- Pride, honor,
sense of duty to oneself and one's country, these are
the kinds of things the program develops.

| Young Marines
won't solve
all youth problems, but we continue to encourage many to strive for greatness
and reach their true potential. Young Marines
also have fun
through a wide variety of exciting activities designed
to reinforce the principles set forward in their
charter. They have more opportunities than other
youth groups to participate in interesting and
exciting activities because of the relationship the
program has to the Marine Corps, and with it, military
professionals and Marine Corps facilities. The
possibilities are endless!
